E. Stegman, then working for Bausch &amp; Lomb, the parent company of the popular glasses brand, Ray-Ban.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><a href=\"https:\/\/patents.harnessip.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/image-9.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"507\" height=\"802\" src=\"https:\/\/patents.harnessip.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/image-9.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-4749\" srcset=\"https:\/\/patents.harnessip.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/image-9.png 507w, https:\/\/patents.harnessip.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/image-9-190x300.png 190w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 507px) 100vw, 507px\" \/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The style quickly grew in popularity throughout the 1950s and early 1960s, favored by by music and film icons such as\u00a0Buddy Holly,\u00a0Roy Orbison\u00a0and\u00a0James Dean.,\u00a0especially after James Dean wore a pair in 1955&#8217;s\u00a0<em>Rebel Without a Cause<\/em>.  The design&#8217;s popularity has waxed and waned over the years.  In 1999, Bausch &amp; Lomb sold Ray-Ban to Luxottica Group S.p.A. of Italy for $640 million.
