Blake, and John A. Blake, of New Haven, Connecticut, on a furniture caster.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><a href=\"https:\/\/patents.harnessip.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/image-7.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"561\" height=\"733\" src=\"https:\/\/patents.harnessip.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/image-7.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-4745\" srcset=\"https:\/\/patents.harnessip.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/image-7.png 561w, https:\/\/patents.harnessip.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/image-7-230x300.png 230w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 561px) 100vw, 561px\" \/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The inventors were nephews of Eli Whitney, with Eli W. being his namesake. The brothers established a hardware casting and furnace works in 1835 in the Westville section of New Haven.  The company manufactured door locks, latches, hinges, and other items of domestic hardware \u2014 many of which they eventually patented.
