{"id":4475,"date":"2024-12-31T09:03:00","date_gmt":"2024-12-31T15:03:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/patents.harnessip.com\/?p=4475"},"modified":"2024-12-29T16:37:40","modified_gmt":"2024-12-29T22:37:40","slug":"december-31-2024","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/patents.harnessip.com\/?p=4475","title":{"rendered":"December 31, 2024"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>On December 31, 1833, Obed Hussey received U.S. Patent No. X7928<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><a href=\"https:\/\/patents.harnessip.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/image-51.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"478\" height=\"781\" src=\"https:\/\/patents.harnessip.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/image-51.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-4477\" srcset=\"https:\/\/patents.harnessip.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/image-51.png 478w, https:\/\/patents.harnessip.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/image-51-184x300.png 184w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 478px) 100vw, 478px\" \/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>This was Hussey&#8217;s most notable invention was a reaping machine, but he also invented a steam plow, a machine for grinding out hooks and eyes, a mill for grinding corn and cobs, a husking machine, a machine for crushing sugar cane, a machine for making artificial ice, a candle-making machine, and other devices.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Although Hussey reaper was ultimately surpassed in the marketplace by the reaping machines of Cyrus McCormick, patented less than a year later on June 21, 1834 (U.S. Patent No. X8277):<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><a href=\"https:\/\/patents.harnessip.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/image-52.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"552\" height=\"842\" src=\"https:\/\/patents.harnessip.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/image-52.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-4478\" srcset=\"https:\/\/patents.harnessip.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/image-52.png 552w, https:\/\/patents.harnessip.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/image-52-197x300.png 197w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 552px) 100vw, 552px\" \/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Hussey was the first person to make, patent, and sell such a machine in the United States. His machine was first in that it was first to be patented and had been worked in at least eight states before McCormick&#8217;s machine ever left Virginia.
