Take for instance U.S. Patent No. 727371 from 1903 on a Jack-O-Lantern Helmet:<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><a href=\"https:\/\/patents.harnessip.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/image-71.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"525\" height=\"795\" src=\"https:\/\/patents.harnessip.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/image-71.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-4269\" srcset=\"https:\/\/patents.harnessip.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/image-71.png 525w, https:\/\/patents.harnessip.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/image-71-198x300.png 198w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 525px) 100vw, 525px\" \/><\/a><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>Political correctness aside, who is going out with a candle on their head?  U.S. Patent No. 838938 from 1907 on a Toy Lantern, also has trick-or-treaters carrying around a lit candle:<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><a href=\"https:\/\/patents.harnessip.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/image-72.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"522\" height=\"768\" src=\"https:\/\/patents.harnessip.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/image-72.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-4270\" srcset=\"https:\/\/patents.harnessip.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/image-72.png 522w, https:\/\/patents.harnessip.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/image-72-204x300.png 204w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 522px) 100vw, 522px\" \/><\/a><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>Hopefully, the Pyrotechnic Novelty of U.S. Patent No. 1,099,548, from 1914 is safer than it sounds:<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><a href=\"https:\/\/patents.harnessip.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/image-74.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"529\" height=\"735\" src=\"https:\/\/patents.harnessip.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/image-74.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-4272\" srcset=\"https:\/\/patents.harnessip.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/image-74.png 529w, https:\/\/patents.harnessip.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/image-74-216x300.png 216w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 529px) 100vw, 529px\" \/><\/a><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>Finally, in 1935 Irving Rollins brought some safety to Halloween with a Halloween lantern with a battery operated lamp (U.S. Patent No. 2,006,251):<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><a href=\"https:\/\/patents.harnessip.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/image-75.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"520\" height=\"761\" src=\"https:\/\/patents.harnessip.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/image-75.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-4273\" srcset=\"https:\/\/patents.harnessip.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/image-75.png 520w, https:\/\/patents.harnessip.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/image-75-205x300.png 205w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 520px) 100vw, 520px\" \/><\/a><\/figure>\n<\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Halloween has spooky overtones, even in the USPTO.
