Risdon received U.S. Patent 132,602 on an improved windmill entitled Wind-wheel:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><a href=\"https:\/\/patents.harnessip.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/image-69.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"577\" height=\"831\" src=\"https:\/\/patents.harnessip.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/image-69.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-4265\" srcset=\"https:\/\/patents.harnessip.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/image-69.png 577w, https:\/\/patents.harnessip.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/image-69-208x300.png 208w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 577px) 100vw, 577px\" \/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Until the 1870&#8217;s windmills were made of wood, the only metal being bolts and other small parts.   Risdon&#8217;s \u201cIron Turbine\u201d was the first all metal windwill, and appeared on the market in 1876.  A few years later, <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Henry H. Beville, patented (U.S. Patent No. 226265) another all-metal design in 1880:<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><a href=\"https:\/\/patents.harnessip.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/image-70.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"564\" height=\"796\" src=\"https:\/\/patents.harnessip.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/image-70.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-4266\" srcset=\"https:\/\/patents.harnessip.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/image-70.png 564w, https:\/\/patents.harnessip.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/image-70-213x300.png 213w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 564px) 100vw, 564px\" \/><\/a><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>Beville was a traveling salesman for a farm implement company in Indiana.  He licensed the &#8220;Iron Duke&#8221; for manufacture and sale, making a substantial profit on his invention.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>On October 29, 1872, James A.
