Groundhogs are  referenced in the claims of only four patents, and mentioned in only 106 U.S. patents (since 1976).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However there is a prominent piece of technology associated with Groundhog Day &#8212; familiar to horopalettologists (<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Flip_clock\">look it up<\/a>): <\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"440\" height=\"188\" src=\"https:\/\/patents.harnessip.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/image.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2375\" srcset=\"https:\/\/patents.harnessip.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/image.png 440w, https:\/\/patents.harnessip.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/image-300x128.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 440px) 100vw, 440px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>the iconic flip clock &#8212; the Panasonic RC-6025 clock radio that restart&#8217;s Phil Conner&#8217;s day in the classic movie Groundhog Day.  Split-flap flip clock displays (or leaf-type digital displays) were first patented in 1965:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"720\" height=\"935\" src=\"https:\/\/patents.harnessip.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/image-1.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2376\" srcset=\"https:\/\/patents.harnessip.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/image-1.png 720w, https:\/\/patents.harnessip.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/image-1-231x300.png 231w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 720px) 100vw, 720px\" \/><figcaption> U.S. Patent No. 3220174 <\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>While briefly popular, these displays were soon supplanted by LCD and then LED displays.
