Google LLC<\/a>, [2017-1135] (October 9, 2018), the Federal Circuit affirmed in part, reversed in part, and remanded,\u00a0entry of judgment on the pleadings holding\u00a0that the asserted claims of DET\u2019s U.S. Patent\u00a0Nos. 5,590,259; 5,784,545; 6,282,551; and 5,303,146 are\u00a0ineligible under 35 U.S.C. \u00a7 101.<\/p>\n<p>The Federal Circuit concluded that\u00a0with the exception of claim 1 of the \u2019551 patent, the asserted\u00a0claims of the \u2019259, \u2019545, and \u2019551 patents are directed to patent-eligible subject matter, finding that these claims claims are not abstract, but rather are directed to a<br \/>\nspecific improved method for navigating through complex\u00a0three-dimensional electronic spreadsheets. The Federal Circuit agreed that the asserted claims of the \u2019146 patent,<br \/>\nreciting methods for tracking changes to data in spreadsheets, were\u00a0directed to the abstract idea of collecting,\u00a0recognizing, and storing changed information.<\/p>\n<p>Regarding the\u00a0\u2019259, \u2019545, and \u2019551 patents, the Federal Circuit said that the claimed method does not\u00a0recite the idea of navigating through spreadsheet pages\u00a0using buttons or a generic method of labeling and organizing\u00a0spreadsheets.
